So…you really want to be a mortgage broker?

Mortgage brokering is a challenging and rewarding career with great rewards with regards to helping others and making a living.  Hours are flexible, but very long (it is 11:20pm while I type this).  It can be Flextime for 16 hours a day, and you face a lot of deadlines.  You also deal with a lot of people who are responsible for helping you who earn a salary and are disconnected from clients, and sometimes don’t care the same way as you do about getting things done.  You also sometimes work with people who use you, and others who are not very responsible.  Your spouse may sometimes get mad and think your cell phone is the devil for taking your attention away from them.  There is no social safety net in this job (maybe your spouse’s salary?), and for most people it is not easy to start unless you have been in a similar field before.

Now, with all the negative aspects out in the open, the positive!

Then, you can also deal with many really great people who truly appreciate what you do for them and help them realize a dream that they may not have believed they could achieve.  You also get to solve tough problems for others, and it is the ultimate personal growth course.  You are continually forced to grow out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and you will learn all the time.  There are many routes it can take you, and many different types of financing you can specialize in.  Many people I feel I help turn around and put on track when they are in a difficult situation.
